Welcome to the Psychology of Leadership at Antioch University. Over the 10-week period of this course, we will explore ways to develop our leadership skills. This blog is a tool we can use to establish a community as well as provide a place for reflecting on what it takes to be a good leader. My personal philosophy of leadership is based on 2 principles:

We are not born leaders. We need to develop our skills and learn from the lessons life deals us.

A leader is not dependent on a formal hierarchical position. We all have the capacity to be leaders in some role – whether it is at work, with our friends, our family, in social settings, on a team, with a religious or spiritual group or with any group we belong to.

Developing your leadership skills will help you gain:

Greater respect and success

Greater recognition for the job you do

Greater cooperation from your friends and family

Greater and more effective direction in your life

The ability to make a greater contribution to the world around you

I have chosen a clip of Dr. Martin Luther King to start this blog. Like many leaders, his dream was to make the world a better place. Please listen to his speech and think about his message. It is my dream that what you learn from this class now, and use in the future will also help you in making the world a better place.
